Sowing Equipment

Automated seed-sowing lines for cassette trays — from peat substrate preparation to sowing, mulching and watering. Two configurations: a compact drum-type line and a high-capacity line for forestry cassettes with a closed root system.

Short line

Drum-type seed-sowing line for cassettes

The drum-type seed-sowing line for cassettes consists of equipment for preparing the substrate, filling cassettes with substrate and sowing cassettes. A compact full-cycle solution: from fluffing the peat to a finished, sown and watered cassette.

01Substrate preparation

Big Bale Shredder

Big Bale Shredder — 1

The peat shredder is designed to operate within a complex for processing plant raw materials or biomass — peat, sapropel, grass. It is typically used to break up large Big Bales of compressed peat on pallets and automatically feed the fluffed peat for further processing. The machine both loosens and gently, thoroughly fluffs the compressed peat while preserving its natural structure. Throughput depends on the properties of the supplied peat: moisture, contamination, degree of compression, Big Bale size and the speed and method of loading pallets.

Design & operating principle

  • Loading of a whole pallet with a pallet truck or forklift
  • Tipping the Big Bale into working position via a hydraulic mechanism with a remote control panel
  • Scraper chain for layer-by-layer removal of peat and feeding it into the fluffing unit
  • Fluffing unit with rotating discs mounted spirally on a shaft, breaking the peat down to its original state
  • Automatic peat-level control in the receiving hopper via an infrared sensor — starting and stopping the machine
  • Standard chassis on solid rubber wheels

Substrate Mixer

Substrate Mixer — 1

The substrate mixer is used for thorough mixing of various components — peat, fertilisers, perlite, starch and other bulk products — followed by controlled discharge via an inclined belt conveyor.

Design features

  • Even mixing of the substrate
  • Option to add water
  • Automatic feeding of substrate into the filler
  • Protective grille
  • Substrate discharge conveyor
  • Separate control panel
  • Motor protective cover

Cassette Filler

Cassette Filler — 1

Substrate from the mixer enters the filler, where cassettes and pots are filled for the first time. The filler has a high-grip conveyor, propeller-type filling, an 800-litre hopper, a vibrating table for better compaction and a brush to clean excess peat off the top of the cassette.

Design features

  • High-grip conveyor
  • Propeller-type filling
  • Vibrating table for better compaction
  • Brush for cleaning excess peat
04Dibbling

Dibbler

Dibbler — 1

After the filler, the cassette reaches the mechanical dibbler, which creates planting holes for the seeds and additionally compacts the peat.

Ease of operation

  • Works in the line flow — holes are formed without stopping the conveyor or involving an operator
  • Mechanical design with no electronics: minimal setup and maintenance
  • Identical hole depth across every cell of the cassette — even and simultaneous germination
  • Peat compaction around the hole keeps the seed in place during subsequent mulching and irrigation
  • The die is matched to the specific cassette type

Precision Drum Seeder

Precision Drum Seeder — 1Precision Drum Seeder — 2Precision Drum Seeder — 3

The precision drum seeder ensures accurate placement of seeds into every cell of the cassette. It is additionally equipped with a cleaning gun and a vacuum seed collector.

  • Accurate drum sowing cell by cell
  • Cleaning gun
  • Vacuum seed collector

After sowing, the cassette enters the mulching unit with an irrigation tunnel and a final roller table. The unit includes an 80-litre hopper, a variable-speed conveyor and a packing roller. The cassette then passes through the irrigation tunnel with 3 perforated tubes and adjustable water supply. After the irrigation system, the tray reaches the roller table, from which the finished cassette is taken.

Design features

  • Variable conveyor speed
  • Can use perlite, vermiculite, sand or peat
  • Hopper auger for feeding the mulching material
  • Irrigation tunnel: 3 perforated tubes with adjustable water supply
  • Final roller table for removing the finished cassette

Frequently asked questions

What does a sowing line include?
The full cycle: loosening and blending the substrate, filling trays, dibbling, precision sowing, mulching and watering. The line is configured to the task.
How do the two configurations differ?
The compact drum-type line suits smaller volumes and limited floor space. The forestry tray line is high-capacity and aimed at containerized planting stock.
How precise is the sowing?
The precision drum seeder places one seed per cell. That cuts seed overuse and removes the need for thinning.
